2024 Portland Mayoral election questionnaire responses
Questions:
The Mayoral race this year is just around the corner, & Skaters for Portland Skateparks would like to see where you stand on some issues important to the skateboarding / action sports community.
In 2005, Portland Parks put together a plan for a skatepark system -19 skateparks distributed throughout the city. To date, we're approximately halfway completed, almost 20 years into the process. How do you envision yourself contributing to fund these skatepark projects?

We're currently working on the Steel Bridge Skatepark in Old Town, which will be the crown jewel of the 19 park plan. There has been a significant budget allocated towards this project, with an anticipated completion date in 2029. We will need help pushing this project over the finish line, what would your support look like?

Portland is the birthplace of the DIY Skatepark: The Burnside Project. There are several other engaging DIY skatespots currently thriving in various parts of town. Will you commit to supporting these projects, if found to be beneficial to the neighborhoods they're a part of? What would that commitment entail?

My policy would be to leave plans in place. Wheeler warned of big budget difficulties ahead. No promises till there is a handhold on $.
I have seen the efforts if has taken to convince the bearostocracy that skate parks are a viable need for many.I am in your corner . Need dough Joe, green Jean, u know what I mean ?

Every city in America has many challenges right now. The pandemic and other things changed America. I myself have taken kids to many of these skate parks, My son broke his arm at the Gresham one when I rolled him over and the bone sticking out of his arm made me get sick. I am not in the know about all the parks funding but have been at most of the parks around the state. I support skate parks.
